THE CUEA EASTER FESTIVAL – A CARIBBEAN TRADITION OF UNITY & RECREATION SINCE 1987
Since its revival in 1987 in Barbados, the Caribbean Utilities Employees Association (CUEA) Easter Festival has become a beloved annual tradition, uniting utility professionals across the region for recreation, camaraderie,
and friendly competition. What began as informal exchanges among utility companies in the 1970s was formally reestablished under the leadership of Valerie Stephenson (NAWASA, Grenada) in 1989, with Sherrol Stoute (BLPC, Barbados) later becoming the first elected President in 1996.
Over the decades, the festival has rotated among 14 Caribbean nations, with Barbados, Antigua, Grenada, and St. Lucia hosting most frequently. Highlights include:
Historic Moments: The 2007 pause for the Cricket World Cup and the 2020–2022 hiatus due to COVID-19.
Leadership Legacy: Pioneering figures like Angela Fitzgerald (Secretary), Donna La Touche (Treasurer), and trustees Winston Roach (BWA) and Michael John (CWSA) helped shape the association.
Cultural Impact: More than just games, the festival strengthens bonds beyond the workplace, blending sport, knowledge-sharing, and Caribbean spirit.
Today, the CUEA Easter Festival remains a testament to regional unity, with Antigua hosting the latest edition in 2024, proving that even after 37 years, the tradition continues to thrive,
